1) Aathichoodi

Aathichoodi is one of the most important work in our Tamil language. Here, you can find charts and flashcards printable to help your child learn this lovely poem.

About Aathichoodi

  • Aathichoodi was written by the great Tamil Poetess Avvaiyar.
  • It is a collection of single line quotations.
  • It consists of 109 quotes/ verses.
  • Each quote starts with a letter in the Tamil Alphabet.
    While learning English alphabet, kids learn the letters by associating them with things/ objects. For example, "A for Apple","B for Ball",etc... But in Tamil, Kids learn the Tamil alphabet with this beautiful poem which teaches the moral values and good habits.
    In particular, Kids use the quotes starting with the Tamil vowels to learn the letters.

How to assemble

Chart: Print the PDF on paper. You can laminate them or place them in the sheet protectors.
Flashcards: Print the PDF on paper or card stock, laminate and cut the cards. You can punch holes on the cards and organize them using a binder ring.
You can also stick these charts/ flashcards on your kid's Tamil learning wall.

  • Tamil thai vazhthu is the state song of Tamilnadu.

  • The song was written by Manonmaniam Sundaram Pillai.
  • Its music was composed by M.S.Viswanathan.
  • Sundaram Pillai was famous for his great drama "Manonmaniyam". Generally, most of the poets/ authors initiate their work by a praising song to their favorite God. He published this song as an invocation to his drama considering Tamil language as Mother/ goddess. Later, the Tamilnadu goverment declared a part of this song as the official state song in 1970.
  • All the goverment functions in Tamilnadu will play Tamil thai vazhthu in the beginning and National anthem at the end.
